MUSIC TECHNOLOGY AND EXPLORATION Grade 7
Do you like to listen to and create music? This class explores music through composing on a looping machine, music editing in GarageBand, song analysis and writing, and more! Improve your music skills, knowledge of world music and history, and enjoy experiencing new music on a daily basis.
BEGINNING PIANO Grades 7 and 8
Would you like to learn a new instrument? In this class, students will learn the basics of piano technique and discover the fundamentals of music theory through daily practice and performance of both traditional and popular music. They will also explore the art of composing and arranging using the GarageBand computer software. This class is intended for students with little or no piano background.
BEGINNING GUITAR Grades 7 and 8
Have you always wanted to play the guitar? In this class, students will learn the fundamentals of guitar technique in both modern and classical styles. Students learn basic chord shapes, picking and strumming techniques, and music theory. They will also learn to improvise solos and compose their own songs. This class is intended for students with little or no guitar background.
MUSICAL THEATER I & II Grade 8
(Trimesters 2 & 3 -students in this class must make a two-trimester commitment)
In this performance class, students learn the necessary skills needed to create a well-rounded musical theatre production, weaving music, drama and movement together. It offers dramatic acting opportunities for those who are interested, as well as a chance for both solo and ensemble musical work. Some extracurricular commitments may be involved as the trimesters culminate with an opportunity for students to showcase their work for parents and peers.
